Chimney & Masonry Repair
The most common place a roof leaks is not the roof. It is where the chimney meets it.
Ask a roofer where leaks start and a lot of them will say the chimney before they say anything else. It is a masonry structure punched through the middle of a waterproof surface, and everywhere those two meet is a place water can work in.
Most chimney leaks are not the roof failing. They are failed flashing, a cracked crown, or mortar joints that have washed out over the years. Patching the shingles around it does nothing, which is why some leaks keep coming back after they have supposedly been fixed twice.

What to know
Flashing is usually the culprit
The metal that ties the chimney to the roof is where the leak almost always is. Done properly it is stepped into the mortar joints, not smeared over with sealant and hoped for.
The crown cracks
The concrete cap on top takes the full weight of the weather. Once it cracks, water runs straight down inside the brickwork and freeze-thaw does the rest from within.
Mortar washes out over decades
Old joints erode, brick loosens, and eventually the top courses have to come off and go back properly. That is masonry work, not roofing work, and the two trades are usually separate.

Which matters, because a chimney leak sits exactly on the line between them. One contractor means nobody gets to say it was the other one's part.
Common questions
My chimney leaks. Does the whole thing need rebuilding?
Usually not. Most chimney leaks are flashing or a cracked crown, and both are repairs rather than rebuilds. A full rebuild is for when the mortar has genuinely gone. We will show you which one you have.
It has been fixed twice and still leaks. Why?
Almost always because the shingles around the chimney were replaced but the flashing was not. Sealant over the top of failed flashing buys a season. Doing it properly means stepping new metal into the mortar joints.
Do you do masonry other than chimneys?
